Busy month of May

Continuing with his success of last year Junior Biathlete Dylan May had a PB in his latest event and has qualified to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Turkey.

Dylan Harcombe one of Sarn Helen’s newest members competed at The Manchester Marathon and had an amazing run in the heat to finish in 3:29:02.

Becky Atkinson who thrives on challenging herself, competed in The Houwm, a Pegasus Ultra Running event in Llanidloes. Covering over 4,500ft of elevation the 30 mile course took runners through the heart of Mid Wales taking in The Sarn, Glyndwr’s Way, Severn Way and the Wye Valley Walk, heading out to Clywedog Reservoir before the finish in Llanidloes. Becky had an outstanding run to finish as 1st Lady and 7th overall in a time of 4hrs 40 minutes.

Spain was the destination for Mother and Daughter Lou and Polly Summers to take part in The Long Course Weekend at Colonia De Sant Jordi, Mallorca, an area of natural beauty with clear waters and stunning landscape. Polly competed in the Half Marathon and 1.9K swim, Polly had an outstanding run and was the first female to cross the line in 1:25:24 and came 5th in the swim and was therefore the overall winner of the duo event. Mum Lou having ran the London Marathon last week competed in the Half Marathon and had a fabulous time of 1:36:49.

Alix Arndt took to the fells when she competed at The Welsh Fell Running Association’s South Series Talgarth Race, a challenging 13.4 km course with over 2000ft of elevation. Alix had a superb race and was 1st in the 40-50 category and 5th lady overall in a time of 1:26:48.

The second of Sarn Helen’s Club Races took place on Bank Holiday Monday at Ysgol Dyffryn Cledlyn superbly organised by Eleri Rivers and her team. 79 runners took to the start line with 39 from Sarn Helen. The weather was kind for the 5 mile race with the route taking runners along country lanes before a last fast mile on the main road back to the school.

Sarn Helen runners produced fantastic results, 1st overall was Daniel Jones 29:26 closely followed by Dylan Davies in 29:59 and 1st M40, Rhodri Williams 31:12 3rd OM, Simon Hall 31:25 2nd M40, Dan Hooper 31:28 1st M50, Mike Davies 32:21 2nd M50, Wyn Evans 32:41, Arwyn Davies 32:46 3rd M50, Glyn Price 33:18, Carwyn Davies 33:47, Matthew Clarke 34:04, Tim Rayner 35:38 1st M60, Geth Ap Phyllip 34:49, Kevin Jones 35:01, Nicola Williams 36:03 3rd OF, Keith Evans 36:32, Eleri Rivers 36:42 1st F45, Ian Williams 36:45, Steven Holmes 37:31, Dee Jolly 37:41 2nd F35, Alix Arndt 37:50 2nd F45, Eryl Jones 38:14, Richard Marks 38:38 3rd M60, David Casso Davies 38:39, Mitch Redwin 42:06, Michelle Billing 43:03, Tony Hall 44:15, Eric Rees 44.22, Jo Rosiak 44:36, Kelly Allen 44:53, Pamela Carter 45:10, Arwyn Jones 45:34, Sarah Puetz 46:04, Murray Kisbee 46:11, Jane Holmes 47:29, Ann Evans 49:27 2nd F55, Claire Williams 51:12, Corrina Robinson 57:49 and Rhys Burton who was the tail runner.

Ras Y Barcud Summer Series saw it’s 2nd race being held at The Hafod Estate, a technical and challenging course of just under 6 miles. Weather conditions on the night made it perfect for an evening race. 1st home was Dylan Lewis in a superb time of 34:16, Simon Hall recovering from a recent injury had a fantastic race and was 2nd M45 in 37:19, Glyn Price as majestic as ever was 1st M55 in 38:08, Wyn Evans 2nd M35 in 38:24, George Eadon 3rd M35 in 40:17, 1st female back was Becky Atkinson in a stunning time of 40:47, Sophia Barker was 2nd female and 1st OF in 43:13, Dee Jolly 1st F35 in 43:20, Alix Arndt 2nd F45 in 46:37, Matthew Birkett 47:23 and Paul Gough 47:37.

Not to be outdone by their senior counterparts Sarn Helen Junior runners also posted great results. Ela Freeman and Ben Eadon had good runs in the 3-4 years school category, Elis Herrick was 1st in the year 5-6 category with Jacob Hall in 2nd place, Emlyn Tansley and Alaw Freeman also ran well. Ellie Tansley was the 1st girl in the 7-9 yr category with Evelyn Eadon having a good race. Finally Ffion Thomas ran well in the 10-11yr category.

The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K played host to the Welsh Regional 10K Championships, Ollie George was selected as one of the 6 male runners to represent West Wales in a battle against teams from North, South and East Wales. Ollie had an outstanding run to finish in 34:30 and was the 2nd West Wales runner to finish.

The Preseli Beast races comprise of 3 varying distances, Preseli Beast Bach is an 11 mile race, The Preseli Beast covers a distance of 24 miles whilst the Ultra Beast is 32 miles.
Sarn Helen had representatives in each race.
7 runners took on the Beast Bach, first home for Sarn Helen was Anthony Conlon in 5th place and 3rd OM with a superb time of 1:37:55, Carwyn Davies was 16th overall and 4th M40 in a fantastic time of 1:45:23, Mitch Readwin 2:11:53, Sarah Puetz 2:28:58, Kevin Jones 2:30:27 Jane Holmes 2:33:04 and Jon Adams 2:51:40. Moving up a level was Wyn Thomas who took on The Beast with an amazing time of 4:19:26. Matthew Birkett took on the biggest challenge of all in The Ultra Beast and finished in a great time of 7:49:22. Safe to say that all 9 runners were successful in Taming The Beast.

Dylan Davies was back on the track competing at the West Wales Regional Championships held at Swansea. Dylan took on the 800 and 1500 meter distances, he was 1st in the 1500m in an impressive time of 4:41:07 and was 5th overall and 3rd Senior in the 800m in a time of 2:13:08.

Expert triathletes Emma Palfrey and Jonathan Price travelled to Llanelli for the Welsh Triathlon Super Series Event. Continuing with her fantastic performance of last year Emma was 1st in the 40-49 category and 2nd female overall in a time of 1:17:14. Jonathan Price who is slowly easing himself back into competitions had a good race to finish in 1:15:23.

Geraint Thomas competed in the Snowdon Half Marathon which started and finished in the village of Llanrwst. The route took runners on a stunning journey through the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Geraint had a fantastic race and managed to have an 8 minute race PB in a time of 1:58:24.

Congratulations to Sarn Helen Junior runners, Hawys, Alaw, Moc, Guto and Nathaniel who represented their respective schools at the Urdd Cross Country in Aberystwyth.
The Abercych 10K is a reasonably fast and flat course, an out and bavk race along scenic country lanes. There was excellent representation from Sarn Helen with great results. Ollie George was 3rd male overall in a superb time of 34:49, Rhodri Williams 37:30, Simon Hall 3rd M40 in 38:59, Mike Davies 2nd M50 in 39:40, Geth Ap Phyllip 41:43, Kevin Jones 43:01, Eleri Rivers 2nd Female and 1st F45, Lou Summers 1st F55 43:49, Nicola Williams 2nd OF 43:55, Sophia Barker 3rd OF 44:07, Ian Williams 46:10, Ioan Lloyd 47:00, Richard Marks 3rd M60 47:04, Matt Britall 48:45, Sian Roberts-Jones 2nd F45 49:35, Russel White 52:55, Sarah Puetz 59:32 and Jane Holmes 1:01:12.

The first race of the SSAFA Cardiff 5K Road Race Series has taken place, a series of 5K races to raise funds for SSAFA South East Wales. Dylan Lewis was the sole representative for Sarn Helen and had a stunning race in a time of 16:47.

The Crocodile 8.8 mile race is hosted by Wye Valley Runners, a challenging course of steep climbs with sharp descents ran on tarred paths and wooded trails. The Summers Family had outstanding runs, Polly Summers was 1st Female in a superb time of 1:07:14, closely followed by her brother Joe in 1:07:39, mum Lou Summers consistent as ever was 2nd F55 in 1:20:00.

 

 

Congratulations to Sarn Helen Junior runner Ellie Tansley on her outstanding performances at the Ceredigion Secondary Schools Area Athletics Championships, Ellie was 1st in the High Jump and 1500M and 4th in the 200M in her age category.
The highlight for Sarn Hellen Running Club every year is The Welsh Castles Relay and this year was no exception. A 2 day weekend running event with 20 runners in each team, 10 running on Saturday and 10 on Sunday. Starting at Caernarfon Castle and finishing in Cardiff runners are given the amazing opportunity to capture the beauty of our stunning Welsh landscape.

The standard of running has improved significantly over the years with teams from England and Wales battling it out to win the coveted team award for the various categories on offer. Sarn Helen Running Club competed in the Open Category and had another phenomenal year finishing 21st overall with some amazing individual results, a huge achievement for a small club.

Swansea was the destination for 7 other Sarn Helen runners, 6 taking on the Half Marathon with Heiddwen Tomos competing in The City 5 miler and finishing in a great time of 49:14.

Dylan Lewis travelled back down to Cardiff to compete in the 2nd race of the SSAFA Cardiff 5K Road Race Series. Dylan had another stunning run to finish in 16:25, 22seconds faster than Race 1.

Dylan Davies was back on the track and is now a Double Gold Medallist having won his Age Category in both the 800 and 1500M races and was 1st overall in the 800M at the Welsh Masters Track and Field Championships with his amazing runs securing him personal best times in both events.
