The 3rd and final of this year’s SSAFA 5K road series in Cardiff saw Emma Palfrey run a fantastic time of 18:59 to finish 11th overall. Emma then travelled up North to compete in Dolgellau in what is locally known as Dol 5. Emma was 2nd lady home in a superb time of 32:18 to claim 1st in the F40 category smashing the previous record for this age group by 6minutes and 6seconds.

Race No 2 of the Poppit Sands 5K Series saw Ollie George take 2nd place overall in a great time of 19:17, Ian Williams with a 1minute PB finished in 23:42 and 3rd in M50 category, Kevin Jones 24:50, Liz Pugh 27:45 and 1st in F55 category, Elin Jones 30:22 and 3rd OF, Sarah Puetz closely followed in 30:33, Claire Williams also achieved a 1 minute PB in 33:52 and Rachel O’Connor 35:29. Times were slightly slower than the 1st race as the sand was softer and more challenging to run on.

The inaugural running of Brynteifi 10K took place on Sunday August 4th. This exciting new race is the brain child of Sarn Helen’s Male Captain Dylan Davies., a challenging undulating course ran on country lanes around the Teifi and Clettwr Valley. This race is sure to be a firm favourite on the racing calendar with the 1st winner being no other than GB runner Dewi Griffiths in a stunning time of 33:31. Sarn Helen runners performed well with Simon Hall 2nd overall in a fantastic time of 39:50, Glyn Price 3rd Overall in a great time of 42:20, Mike Davies was close on Glyn’s heels to finish 1st M50 in 42:42, Arwyn Davies 3rd M50 in 45:47, Martin Darby 3rd M40 48:50, Richard Marks 2nd M60 52:14, Rory Fairhurst 2nd MO 43:49, Stephen Kenworthy 3rd MO 49:01.

The 3rd and final race of the Poppit Sands 5K Series took place on the 13th August with 92 runners taking to the start line, 15 of whom were from Sarn Helen. It turned out to be a succesful night for a few of the runners with results as follows. Dylan Lewis was 1st overall and 1st M40 in a superb time of 18:00, Sam Harrison Paul in his first race for a while showed he still had what it takes finishing in 4th position and 3rd OM. Simon Hall also had a great race and was 2nd M40 in 19:12 and not far behind was George Eadon in 19:25, Mike Davies, consistent as ever was 1st in the M50 category in 20:11 with Rory Fairhurst hot on his heels in 20:14.

Dee Jolly was the 1st of the Sarn ladies to finish and 2nd F35 in a fantastic time of 21:18, Kevin Jones was 3rd M50 in 22:28, Ian Williams 23:13, Stephen Kenworthy 25:17, Liz Pugh was 1st in the F55 category in a time of 26:21 and secured herself a hatrick of wins having also won the F55 category in the previous 2 races. Sarah Puetz 29:15, Maddy Eadon was 3rd YF in 29:50, Brian Kilsby 30:59 and Claire Williams 31:45. Rory Fairhurst was also fortunate to win 2 spot prizes over the series of races.

Ollie George was the sole representative for Sarn Helen at St Clears 10K, Ollie had a stunning race to finish 2nd overall and 1st U23 West Wales in a time of 35:50.

Ras Y Dewin is another local race ran in conjunction with Cwrtycadno show. A challenging 4.8 miles fell run with almost 900ft of elevation set in stunning scenery, a superb course organised by Carwyn Davies. Race winner was Dylan Davies in a great time of 36:22, Simon Hall also had a good run to finish in 2nd place in 37.31, Dee Jolly was 1st female and 3rd overall in a super time of 39:59. Gethin Ap Phylip 51:58, Mitch Readwin 53:10, Calvin Williams 54:20, Ben Hall 57:19, Tony Hall 57:20, Jane Holmes 62:57, Claire Williams 63:32, Liz Pugh 68:14 and Helen Willoughby 68:30.

Emma Palfrey competed at the British Sprint Triathlon Championships held recently at Mallory Park. The event consisted of a 750m swim, 20km bike ride followed by a 5k run. Emma had a fantastic race to win her age group by over 4 minutes and was 11th overall. Emma is now the British Champion in the F40-44 category, an amazing achievement.

Ras Beca is a challenging 5 mile fell race which sees runners having to overcome mud, hills and waterlogged ground to reach the finish line. 2 Sarn Helen members decided to take on this challenge, Wyn Thomas had a fantastic outing to finish 3rd overall in a time of 45:14 with Ormond Williams also overcoming the conditions crossing the line in 1:13:48.

3 members supported another local race at Cil Y Cwm, an undulating 5 mile race ran on country roads. Steven Holmes crossed the line in 6th position in a time of 37:54, Mitch Readwin 45:38 and Jane Holmes was pleased with her overall time of 52:00.

Dylan Wyn secured another PB when he competed at the Charnwood AC Open Track 800M, finishing in a superb time of 2 minutes 15 second to claim 1st place in the M40 category, not content with doing 1 race, Dylan took on the double by also running in the 1500M, again coming away with a category win in a fantastic time of 4 mins 43 secs.

Nigel Davies was merely doing a bit of parkrun tourism at Barmouth which happened to coincide with the Fairbourne Annual Race Train and could not resist the temptation to enter, it proved to be a good decision as he secured himself 3rd position in a great time of 17:52.

Dylan Lewis travelled to Bute Park in Cardiff to compete in the Adidas Podium Home Nations 5K and had a superb race to finish 3rd overall with a new PB time of 16:26.

The Narberth Nobbler 10K is a challenging race, an undulating course with over 1000ft of elevation and ran on trail and road with runners having to combat streams and mud to reach the finish line. 4 brave Sarn Helen runners took on the challenge, Rory Fairhurst had an excellent run to finish 3rd overall in 56:57, Kevin Jones also had a great run in 64:00, Sarah Puetz finished in 1hr 22nins despite having a fall and Elin Jones using this as a training run for an up and coming triathlon event had a time of 1hr 24 minutes.

Claire Williams competed in the Amman Valley Sprint Triathlon, a 400M swim, 16K bike ride and a 5K run. Claire had a great race which she enjoyed and finished in a time of 1:22:06.
